Ventrilo is a cross-platform voice chat, which is often regarded as the voice equivalent of the IRC. Its main advantages are very low consumption of system resources and bandwidth, and methods of push-to-talk (you talk when you press the preset button) and voice-on-demand (when you start talking, the client starts to encode and send the statement) with the possibility of setting the time required for the inactivation of silence and the ability to use their own, free server. Written verbal communication is also possible, and interesting addition is the option text-to-speech, or reading speeches written by the simulator's speech (unfortunately, only copes with the English language.)
